  • Piksel08 - Code Dreams

Piksel08 :: Code Dreams Bergen, Norway Piksel08 :: festival december 4-7 2008 Piksel08 :: exhibition dec 12 08-jan 25 09 How does code dream? What are the dreams of code? Piksel08 examines the other side of code, an alternative side to a hard-coded reality of work and play. Open hardware and free software project a utopic vision, yet exist within economies of capital, the dream factory of mainstream technology. Within the chance meeting of sewing machine and umbrella on the dissecting table, hardware and software are flattened. Piksel08: code dreams explores the dreams of this soft machine; bachelors coding for pleasure, reverse engineering paranoiac constructs of the real, automatic coding practice, soft hardware, and everyday magic.

    savetheinternet

The internet is under wholesale attack from corporations and from governments who are doing it both on the companies' behalf, and for their own nefarious reasons. "Net neutrality", the idea that all content is equal on the web, is being threatened by expensive lobbying from US corporations. In Europe, the French government has implemented legislation with a "three strikes and you're out" policy, which will force ISPs to police and cut the connections of supposed illegal downloaders, regardless of its effects on civil liberties. In the UK, such legislation comes into force in April 2010. The massive increase in freedom and personal empowerment for citizens which the internet represents is being put at risk in order to artificially prop up the antiquated business models of mega-corporations. Meanwhile the mainstream media has taken the naive line that these policies are tackling crime, while failing to realize that their effect would actually be to stop the internet from working. In the UK you could try this group to get involed in campaining http://www.openrightsgroup.org visionOntv is the new mainstream tv, but with content which is very very different. We aim to make social change via video a real possibility.
