    Marriage Fever Hits Camp Waterlogg

Napanoch, New York is a-buzz with sounds. Chickens cluck. A woodpecker drums a hallow stump. Water drips off the porch into an ice-covered trough. Joe Bev captures them. The veteran award-winning radio producer, along with his merry band of voice actors, traverse the woods of Camp Waterlogg, his real-life rustic Catskills home, which doubles as the backdrop for the fictional kids camp.It is all part of "The Comedy-O-Rama Hour" which premieres new shows every week.In real life and in the fiction of the radio theater, Joe Bevilacqua (that's his full name) asks his actors to climb trees, run through the snow, dance by waterfalls, all while ad-libbing complicated story-lines and portraying multiple characters.Joe Bev himself voices Sgt. Lefty, Ellis the Boatkeeper, Lil Andy, Adam Maxwell, Woody, Sal Pilvers, and many others. More impressive is Bev's ability to play all these characters in one scene all at once, moving around the stereo landscape captured by his SONY IC Recorder."If I improvise Ellis and Lefty talking to each other, I might speak as Ellis on the left and as Sgt. Lefty on the right. This really completes the illusion that it is really two actors talking," reveals Bevilacqua. In this week's opening scene, where the character Olive Pitts is taking a bath, the Lorie Kellogg, the actress playing Olive, performed the scene IN the bathtub. Kellogg also voices Elise, Mrs. Terwilliger, Lkie, and other characters."We have replaced recording radio theater in a cold studio, on a stationary microphone with a sound effect table with something more alive," adds Bev.The result is a free-wheeling improvisational comedy that is also a sitcom and a radio theater. On this week's Comedy-O-Rama, entitled "Marriage Fever Hits Camp Waterlogg," Sgt. Lefty and Olive Pitts plan for their wedding, which conflicts with the "elderly Dance & Raffle" being held by Sal Pilvers (Joe Bev). Meanwhile, Luigi (Kenny Savoy) and Marcello (Jim Folly) arrive at the dance two weeks early. Joe Bevilacqua, also known as Joe Bev is primarily known as a radio theater dramatist. However, his career has taken him into every aspect of show business, including stage, film and television, as a producer, director, writer, actor, and even cartoonist. Not content to hide behind his microphone, Bevilacqua will be seen acting in the upcoming feature films: "The Green Blade Rises" directed A.J. Edwards, "The Fly Room" directed by Alexis Gambis, "Cold in July" directed by Jim Mickle, and "Hits" directed by David Cross.Incredibly, Joe Bev currently acts on stage, TV and in movies, reports for NPR (All Things Considered, Weekend Edition, Latino USA), and still finds time to produce 36 unique hours of radio every month, 12 of which are underwritten by book publisher BearManor Media. They are The Comedy-O-Rama Hour, The Jazz-O-Rama Hour, The Joe Bev Experience, Cartoon Carnival, The Joe Bev Audio Theater, The Voice Actor Show, The J-OTR Show, The Lost OTR Show, and The Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention Celebrity Interviews (all of which are also hosted by Joe Bev), plus shows hosted by others: Lorie's Book Nook with Lorie Kellogg, Fred Frees Favorites with Fred Frees, What's Cookin'? with Chef Steve Mendoza, Aroma Thyme Radio with Chef Marcus Guiliano, and Movies on the Air with Bryan Hendrickson.THE OTHER VOICE: Inspired  by the unusual Lorie Kellogg has been creating and performing since an early age. In high school she wanted to perform but since she was also an artist was left to get the 3rd highest Thespian points her Senior year by making props and performing in background roles. In art school she played with every medium at the Kansas City Art Institute sans clay and cloth. Printmaking, painting, photography, video and computer art were her main studies. Continuing with video and computer art Lorie attained her Masters Degree at Cal Arts. After graduating she worked as a graphic designer and performed with Diavolo Dance Theater in Los Angeles. And then she met Joe Bevilacqua and the world of voice acting was open to her. They quickly started creating audio projects together and formed Waterlogg Productions. They now have over 177 audio books distributed through Blackstone Audio and produce and syndicate their fifteen radio shows to online and public radio stations. Lorie continues to create graphic but is also an actress, comedian and voice artist. Camp Waterlogg: When Two Parties Collide

On this week's Comedy-O-Rama Hour, Sgt. Lefty (Joe Bev) ...

On this week's Comedy-O-Rama Hour, Sgt. Lefty (Joe Bev) and his girlfriend Olive Pitts (Lorie Kellogg) plan their wedding, which will conflict with the Elderly Dance and Raffle. Meanwhile, Adam Maxwell (Joe Bev) has been arrested, and Andy (Joe Bev) and Lkie (Lorie Kellogg) get a lesson from Sal Pilvers (Joe Bev) on how to sell dance tickets. The weekly hour is produced by veteran radio theater producer Joe Bevilacqua (Joe Bev). Bevilacqua maps out the plot of each hour and he and his cast improvise the dialogue and action, not from a studio but in the real world, including the woods of Napanoch, NY.He beams, I am  very pleased with the direction my radio work has developed."Also on this week's Comedy-O-Rama, Jim Folly returns as Lil Jimmy and Chef Ron Drysdale, who both have a run in with Stinky (Kenny Savoy) . Savoy and Folly have been doing comedy together since 1979, as part of Liquid Comedy, of which Bevilacqua was also a founding member.---"The Comedy-O-Rama Hour is one of the most unique and original productions out there these days. With Joe's talent for different voices, I never know what's coming next, or what it will sound like. Another thing that makes these shows stand out is that it is quite obvious to the listener that Joe and his cast are having fun making these shows, and that makes them fun to listen to as well." "Great parodies of old time radio icons, classic moments with legendary comedians and wonderful voice-acting, The Comedy O Rama Hour picks up where great radio comedy left off decades ago. Heck, it's even produced in the Borscht Belt." - Steve Karesh, Former Program Director, Sonic Theater XM Satellite Radio---Joe Bevilacqua, also known as Joe Bev is primarily known as a radio theater dramatist. Camp Waterlogg: Sgt. Lefty Joins The Mustang Club

On this week's Comedy-O-Rama Hour, Sgt. Lefty joins a Mustang ...

On this week's Comedy-O-Rama Hour, Sgt. Lefty joins a Mustang club, takes his son horseback riding, makes a pot of azuki beans and Chinese dumplings for his girlfriend Olive Pitts (Lorie Kellogg). The creator of the weekly radio hour, Joe Bevilacqua (Joe Bev) voices both Lefty and his adopted son Andy, something he admits he could only do in audio."My two characters really interact a lot in this week's show, so I did a lot of talking to myself!" laughs Bevilacqua, who maps out the plot of each hour and improvises the dialogue, not from a studio but in the real world, including the woods of Napanoch, NY."I even cooked beans over my kitchen stove while we recorded this week's story. When we were finished we had both a new hour radio situation comedy AND a pot of cooked beans!"Also on this week's Comedy-O-Rama, Jim Folly returns as Lil Jimmy, who loan sharks Stinky (Kenny Savoy). Ellis and Adam (Joe Bev), as Elise and Mrs. Terwilliger (Lorie Kellogg) are still cleaning up after the Camp's party when the Kerhonkson police show up.Meanwhile, Andy (Joe Bev) critiques Lkie's (Lorie Kellogg) and mud pies, and there is still a line of elder folks blocking the gates, demanding tickets to a "thingamabob".The Comedy-O-Rama Hour had a four year successful run on Sirius XM Radio. Since returning, Comedy-O-Rama has attracted such celebrity guests as Rick Overton, Stuart Pankin, Bob Camp, Phil Proctor, David Ossman, June Foray, Nancy Cartwright, Bob Greenberg, Julie Newmar, and Judy Tentua. Joe Bev attributes the positive response to his radio show as a sign today's audiences are craving radio theater. "We are creating a fully realized storyline every week, with continuing characters, sound effects, music, full production values... plus we're funny!" says Bev, who improvises half the characters on the show. "One of the funniest guys I know is Kenny Savoy. Kenny can do voices and read a script as well as any actor I know, but what makes Kenny special is is bright open upbeat personality. He lifts the energy of everyone he meets." "Kenny is also a great improviser. When we toured as Liquid Comedy--after the rest of us struggled before the audience with parodies of current TV shows and juvenile dialogues--Kenny brought down the house by pulling out his harmonica and ad-libbing a hilarious and clever blues song. I can also count on Kenny as a close and trusted friend. I look forward to many more years of making people laugh with Kenny Savoy!" "The script, which I completed... poured out of me because I was inspired. I was writing it to showcase the talents of Jim Folly, the funniest man alive!" "Jim has been a member of Liquid Comedy since we formed it in 1979. Jim is Don Rickles, Chico Marx and Allen Jenkins all rolled into one!" ---"The Comedy-O-Rama Hour is one of the most unique and original productions out there these days. With Joe's talent for different voices, I never know what's coming next, or what it will sound like. The Camp Waterlogg Thingamabob

Joe Bev and his troupe of actors create from scratch ...

Joe Bev and his troupe of actors create from scratch a brand new one hour IMPROVISED radio radio theater every week. During this week's Comedy-O-Rama, Jim Folly, as Marcello and Chef Ron, and Kenny Savoy, as Luigi and Stinky, continue last week's plot in which Chef Ron accidentally abandons Stinky Peter at Marcello and Luigi's cheese shop. Ellis and Adam (Joe Bev), and Elise and Mrs. Terwilliger (Lorie Kellogg) must clean up after the Camp's party. Meanwhile, Lkie (Lorie Kellogg) and Andy (Joe Bev) make mud pies, as a line forms of elder folks are throwing stale Dunkin Donuts and demanding tickets to a "thingamabob". "The Hobbit" Comes to The Comedy-O-Rama Hour!"The Hobbit" is parodied on The Comedy-O-Rama Hour: Camp Waterlogg: "Andy in the Underground, Stinky in the Cheese." During the hour radio theater comedy, Sgt. Lefty, Ellis, Adam, and Woody take Andy (all voiced by Joe Bevilacqua) on a hike in the woods. The scenes were improvised and recorded in stereo by Bevilacqua in the actual snow covered woods behind his home in the Catskills. While hiking, Andy falls down a hole, lands in Middle Earth and plays cards with the Baby of the Woods, Golum, and Bilbo Baggins (all voiced by Lorie Kellogg). Andy wins the game and the ring and becomes the Lord of the Rings and invisible. Meanwhile, Elise, Mrs. Terwilliger, Olive, Courtney and Lkie (all voiced by Lorie Kellogg) plan a surprise party, and Chef Ron accidentally abandons Stinky Peter at Marcello and Luigi's cheese shop. The hour also includes Jim Folly as Marcello and Chef Ron, and Kenny Savoy as Luigi and Stinky, and the story "Chess of Many Colors" by Pedro Pablo Sacristan, voiced by Kellogg and Bevilacqua. Bilbo Baggins is the title character and protagonist of J. R. R. Tolkien's 1937 novel The Hobbit, as well as a supporting character in The Lord of the Rings. In Tolkien's narrative conceit, in which all the writings of Middle-earth are translations from the fictitious volume of The Red Book of Westmarch, Bilbo is the author of The Hobbit and translator of various "works from the elvish" (as mentioned in the end of The Return of the King). The latest film adaption by Peter Jackson, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, stars Martin Freeman as Bilbo and Ian McKellen as Gandalf. Weekly Improvised Radio Theater Revives The Art of Sound EffectsHusband and wife duo Joe Bevilacqua and Lorie Kellogg make a new hour a radio theater every week. But this week's show, "Camp Waterlogg:  In Training", presented a big challenge for the scene in which Sgt. Lefty builds miles of model train villages around Camp Waterlogg. Bevilacqua reveals the secret to his train sounds: "My wife's stationary bike and a couple of toy whistles. Then, I mixed them in various stereo pans, crossing each other." Bev not only produces and directs the lush radio theater hour, he is the voice of most of the characters on the show, including Sgt. Lefty, Ellis the Boatkeeper, Adam Maxwell, and Lil Orphan Andy. Kellogg voices include Olive Pitts, Elise, Mrs. Terwilliger, Lkie and others. Together, Bev and Kellogg improvise all of the Camp Waterlogg character's dialogue. The hour also includes the stories "August Heat" and "The Match and the Toy Men" by Pedro Pablo Sacristan, voiced by Kellogg and Bev. The couple have been working together since they met in 1996. They have toured with their Vaudeville in the Catskills stage show, in which they performed "Lambchops" the classic Burns and Allen comedy routine, and Bev MCs and performed the classic Abbott and Costello routine Who's On First? with Bob Greenberg.Archived Comedy-O-Rama Hours are now podcast on iTunes at: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-comedy-o-rama-hour/id572142422?mt=2and all podcast websites.Bevilacqua is a veteran radio theater producer and voice actor. "The media is missing a big story," says Joe Bevilacqua. "Internet radio is booming. A lot of it is just a person 'uming' and 'huhing' in front of a microphone, but a lot is it is high quality radio comedy, drama and documentary. I like to think my work is in that category." On this week's Comedy-O-Rama, "The Return of Stinky", part two of last week's storyline in which the staff tries to please the son of a rich potential donor. During a game of hide'n'seek, Peter Moss (Kenny Savoy) shows up and thinks the camp is deserted. Bev not only produces and directs the lush radio theater hour, he is the voice of most of the characters on the show, including Sgt. Lefty, Ellis the Boatkeeper, Adam Maxwell, and Lil Orphan Andy. Kellogg voices include Olive Pitts, Elise, Mrs. Terwilliger, Lkie and others. More about Waterlogg Productions at http://www.waterlogg.com. A Camp Waterlogg Hide and Seek

When Joe Bevilacqua (Joe Bev) decided to create new installments ...

When Joe Bevilacqua (Joe Bev) decided to create new installments of his radio theater show The Comedy-O-Rama Hour, which aired for four years on XM Radio, he knew he did not want to produce the show the old fashioned way--standing at a microphones in a cold studio. "With portable digital recording, radio theater can now happen anywhere," says the veteran award-winning actor-writer-producer-director. He adds, "The days of being stuck in a cold little studio with a script and a sound effects table are gone." Now Joe Bev records scenes in Japanese restaurants while eating sushi, doing dishes, taking a bath, climbing a tree in the woods, giving the radio stories a real life. Bev concludes, "We have been doing most these characters for more than 12 years now and some I have been voicing for more than 40 years. W no longer have to write what we want to say. The Comedy-O-Rama Hour has also evolved from a scripted to a fully improvised hour of radio theater."On this week's show, "A Camp Waterlogg Hide'n'Seek"--which was recorded on location in Kansas City suburb Lenexa, Kansas--the Camp Waterlogg staff tries to please the son of a rich potential donor, Silvia Salvatore played by Jennye Rose, who's real son Van also plays her son on the show. Meanwhile, during a game of hide'n'seek, Peter Moss (Kenny Savoy) shows up and thinks the camp is deserted. Bev is the voice of most of the characters on the show, including Sgt. Lefty, Ellis the Boatkeeper, Adam Maxwell, Lil Andy, Uncle Dunkle, Donnie and even a little girl named Wootsy. Kellogg's voices include Olive Pitts, Elise, Mrs. Terwilliger and a little girl named Lkie. The hour also includes the story "Uncle Dunkle, Donnie and Wootsy" by Daws Butler, voiced entirely by Joe Bev, and "The Chair" by Pedro Pablo Sacristan, voiced by Kellogg and Bev. Guest actors on The Comedy-O-Rama Hour have included David Ossman, Rick Overton, Julie Newmar, Bob Camp, Judy Tenuta, Al Franken, Shelley Berman, Lewis Black, Fred Frees, and Stuart Pankin.Joe Bev is a veteran radio theater producer and voice actor. He also works on stage and is the winner of the 2012 New York TANYS Award for Excellence in Acting. Joe has also MC'd shows featuring Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Mahr and Gilbert Gottfried.
