Janet Napolitano helped organized the arrest of over 7,000 Americans during the Occupy protests. In Berkeley, protesters suffered broken arms and ribs during the police and DHS attacks on Occupy; citizen reporters were threatened to be shot at point black range. In Oakland, location of UC offices, tear gas and rubber bullets caused numerous injuries to the public. Bay residents suffering from a collective trauma, and a person who helped caused it now runs the UC.

    Two more students were arrested by police at UC Santa Cruz on April 3 during the Graduate Student Workers strike. 22 Students in total were arrested while trying to maintain a picket line across the west entrance of campus over the course of the two day strike held April 2-3.     Even though there is overwhelming support for the redwood trees (at Ridge Road and Le Roy Avenue), UC Berkeley is still planning to cut down the grove for the Paul Jacobs Design Institute. Students, faculty/staff and Berkeley residents want the trees to stay, but the UC is ignoring the community. The ground breaking ceremony for the design center is April 12th, Cal Day. It is believed the trees may be cut down beforehand, over Spring break, to clear the lot for the public ceremony.
