Week six is not really a week - more of a culture - in FIRST Robotics. It is when things start coming together, falling apart, and then coming together again. It's always a lot of work and late nights in the shop, but also always a lot of fun. Here is Team 97's robot, almost finished, as of Tuesday night.More info on the competition: http://www.usfirst.orgMore info on the team: http://web.mit.edu/first/www

Just passing through the halfway point of the build season now, FIRST Robotics Team 97 has a driving base. The base uses mecanum wheels with rollers at 45-degree angles to drive both translation and rotational motion independently. A gyroscopic sensor stabilizes the control. For more info about the competition, visit: http://www.usfirst.orgFor more info about the team, visit: http://web.mit.edu/first/www

The mecanum wheels are on now. Rollers at 45-degree angles to the wheels themselves allow the platform to move in any direction, including sideways and diagonally. We hope to have some driving video by the weekend. For more information about the FIRST Robotics Competition, including this year's challenge description, visit: http://www.usfirst.org.

2.12 is a Mechanical Engineering elective during which students make robotic mechanisms to accomplish a given task. This year, we have to pick up radioactive waste (i.e. glowsticks) from a nuclear reactor (i.e. tank of water). Our design utilizes a two-axis rack and pinion system, which we demonstrate by creating artwork (i.e. drawing a circle and a figure eight).
